Montmorency County is located in the northeastern part of the lower peninsula. The county contains 550 square miles and ranks 60th in size in the state. The county seat is Atlanta. State forest land covers most of the county, which also has an abundance of lakes. Dry beans and dairy products are important to the county's agricultural production. The service industry and retail trade related to tourism form most of the economic base in this rural area. Hunting, fishing, boating, and other outdoor activities are offered in abundance.
